Biography
Gary Sheatz is Of Counsel at Everett Dorey. Gary has more than 30 years of experience in Municipal Law. Over the course of his career, he worked for numerous cities.
Gary previously served as a City Attorney, after serving as Senior Assistant City Attorney and Staff Attorney. As a City Attorney and general counsel Gary regularly advises city council, city manager, executive directors and city staff, police departments, boards, and commissions on all aspects of municipal law and on legal questions relating to their respective governmental duties, powers, functions and obligations. He routinely advises on legal issues related to open government, public records, conflict of interest, government tort claims, and elections. Gary specializes in providing advice on complex land use entitlement matters involving the Subdivision Map Act, development agreements, planning, zoning, land use, CEQA, and code enforcement, and helped navigate a myriad of regulations pertaining to the California Affordable Housing Act, Short Term Rentals, Accessory Dwelling Units, and statutory Housing Element updates. Throughout his career, Gary represented Cities in numerous cases involving a wide variety of issues and aspects of municipal law.
Gary received his law degree from California Western School of Law, in San Diego and his undergraduate degree from California State University, Long Beach.
