Sy Everett Cited as Best Lawyer in Commercial Litigation
Everett Dorey LLP co-founder and partner Seymour B. Everett III has been recognized as a Best Lawyer in America® in Commercial Litigation for 2023. The Best Lawyers honor is based on peer recommendations through a process in which thousands of lawyers are interviewed in a series of polls.
Mr. Everett is routinely retained as trial counsel in complex and challenging cases throughout the state. He represents corporations, non-profits, cities, public agencies, special districts, school districts, police officers and individuals in all aspects of litigation. His cases include catastrophic injuries, asbestos, employment law, toxic tort, habitability, mold, general liability, wildland fires, business interference, libel, slander, environmental and administrative compliance.
He won a significant federal jury trial in April 2022 on behalf of the City of Costa Mesa with major local, state and federal ramifications. In Ohio House LLC v City of Costa Mesa, (United States Central District Court, a federal jury confirmed a city’s right to regulate sober homes, granting cities the rights to control where they can be located and who can operate them.
The jury found that Costa Mesa did not discriminate under the Fair Housing Act, nor did it make discriminatory statements against the disabled or interfere with the right to choose their housing. The Daily Journal acknowledged this matter’s significance by selecting it as a “Verdict of the Week” (May 27, 2022).
